Birth Art originates from ideas in the book 'Birthing From Within' by American midwife Pam England.

In the UK it has been developed as the Birth Art Cafe by Tamara Donn, who trained your local mentor, Deborah Robertson.

Birth Art Cafe Medway follows a similar pattern to all the others around the country:

  • Welcome, and a chance to catch up with the other participants.
  • Dip into the free lending library full of both classic and alternative childbirth and parenting books.

  • Enjoy a guided relaxation and visualisation.

  • Use the provided materials to draw, paint of sculpt a response to the suggested theme - or follow your own idea.

  • Pause to enjoy the refreshments served to you.

  • Share as much or as little as you wish about what the Birth Art experience has triggered by way of thoughts or feelings.

  • Move out from our accepting circle of women to return to everyday life, encouraged, strengthened, reassured, enlightened or inspired.

Testimonial

"Birth Art is not just a good or a nice thing to do, it is really important thing to do, and worth making a priority. I found it utterly profound in the adjustment and transition to motherhood, in accepting my birth (of baby and particularly of me as a mother) and the many issues that becoming a mother throws up. My professional and identity crises were profoundly eased through doing it and the healing continues to the point I don't even think it's an issue anymore. I am calmer and more at peace through doing it.

"Never feel that you need to be feeling on top of things that day to come, it is no chore, it is an oasis... so peaceful and relaxing and accepting that it is the highlight of my week. It's also gentle, there is no emotional fatigue, despite the profundity.

"I just know once you have been you will really regret not coming to more. Is it an opportunity you afford to pass up?"
